Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Driver for a Senior

Volunteer to Drive Now – Don’t Feel Guilty Asking for Rides Later!

Can you imagine being trapped in your own home all day every day because you can no longer drive? Thousands of isolated seniors in our community need your help to get to critical medical appointments, shop for food, run errands that they’ve been postponing for months, and attend social activities. Many drivers tell us that driving seniors has been one of the most rewarding things they have ever done.

Volunteer Driver for a Cancer Patient

One of the toughest parts about getting cancer treatment is actually getting there. Transportation is the number one reason that patients miss or don’t schedule needed appointments. Treatment schedules for patients vary. They can require treatment daily, weekly or even monthly for varying durations. Your volunteer commitment is flexible. You can volunteer to drive as little as once or twice a month, or as much as five days a week, depending on your preference.

Friendly Visitor for a Senior

A friendly visitor can make a huge difference in the life of a senior who is isolated. Volunteers make a six-month commitment to visit with their match for approximately four hours a month, providing conversation, support, friendship, and a connection to the community.

Reassurance Calls

Volunteer from the convenience of your own home! Make weekly social phone calls to homebound older adults. Volunteers provide stimulating conversation and friendship to older adults who are otherwise isolated from the community.

Holocaust Survivor Program Assistant

We have many opportunities for people who want to work with local Holocaust Survivors. You can work as a home visitor, a Café Europa Event Assistant or Planner, or a Reparations Assistant.

Senior Fitness and Activity Instructors

We hold classes for seniors at low-income housing complexes in Irvine. Our seniors like to mix it up…so we are always looking for interesting classes to keep them interested. Chair Pilates, Yoga, Tai-Chi, Zumba, Ethnic Dance, Line Dance, or Clogging are but a few examples of the types of classes we’re looking for! Volunteers can choose to teach a weekly six or eight week class or sign on with us once a week for 6 months or more.

Professional Mentor

Professional Mentors are needed for women over 40 looking for meaningful employment. Mentors help connect women to their professional networks and to stay motivated.
