How Silver Streak can Help You Stay Independent

Silver Streak was designed to make it easier for Orange County seniors to get around. It fills in the transportation gaps in Orange County, because it is one of the few providers to offer rides between cities. The first step is getting an application from the Silver Streak Mobility Manager and filling it out! Here are the kinds of rides offered:

Rides from Volunteer Drivers

Volunteer rides are available with 48 hours notice. A ride from a volunteer driver is great if you have more than one stop or if you need someone to wait for you at your destination. You buy books of 10 vouchers for $20 ($2.00 per ticket). Each ride up to 12 miles requires one voucher. If you are going more than 12 miles, it requires two vouchers. To get a ride, you need to call Sandy at (949) 435-3460.

Taxi-Gelt (vouchers)

If you are also signed up for the Silver Streak Volunteer program, you can buy deeply discounted Taxi-Gelt (Vouchers) for rides with California Yellow Cab. A book of vouchers worth $50 costs you only $15. Even with a 70% discount, it will cost you a lot more to ride in a taxi than to ride with volunteer. Taxi-Gelt is great if you are traveling at an unusual hour, on the weekend, or if you have not given 48 hours notice. To get a ride, you call a special number at least 24 hours before your ride.

Group Rides

Many seniors in Orange County love taking group rides with Silver Streak. You can arrange a group trip to any destination in Orange County by calling Sandy at (949) 435-3460. As of July 1, the price will be $7.00 round trip.

Shuttles

We can arrange a shuttle bus to any destination in Orange County, as long as there are several people who are going to the same destination. For example, if several people want to go to Trader Joes every Wednesday at 10:00, we can arrange a special trip for your group every Wednesday. Shuttles need to be arranged with Sandy at (949) 435-3460.
